How to Install Theme on iPhone

Alright, since many people ask us how to install the themes they download here to their iPhone/iTouch, we made this special page for you newbie. This is not the only way to install the themes manually, you can search in the net for more alternative ways. We’ll share what we usually do.

Before continue reading this, you must know that the themes are only for jailbroken iPhone/iTouch. Sorry, no theme for you honest iPhone/iTouch user :)
You might want to wait for official iPhone OS 4.0 since it will allow you to use your own wallpaper. Not enough? Hey, at least you can get rid of that boring black background!

And, it might be a good idea if you learn first about FTP and SSH (Google, Yahoo, or Bing is your friend). We won’t talk about that here, so we will pretend that you have at least intermediate knowledge of FTP/SSH. Why? Because we will install the theme manually, yes, do it yourself. Not by Cydia, whatsoever.

The themes are working up to firmware 3.1.3 (current firmware). We don’t know if the theme still working when firmware 4.0 is out.

Before trying to download iPhone themes we provide here, you should prepare some stuffs first in your iPhone and computer:

  • Cydia (yes, this is why jailbreak is a must)
  • Winterboard (download it from Cydia)
  • SSH enabled on iPhone (download OpenSSH from Cydia)
  • WinSCP (Windows user) or CyberDuck (OSX user) or DiskAid (both Windows and OSX user) installed on your computer.

Steps by steps:

  1. Make sure you have enabled SSH in your iPhone/iTouch. Check your WIFI network IP address. To find this, you can go into Settings, then to Wifi. Click on the SSID of your network, then it will show you an IP (ex: 192.168.1.101)
  2. Open your SSH application (WinSCP or CyberDuck). Enter these in the fields given:
    • File Protocol: SCP (WinSCP) or SFTP (Cyberduck)
    • Hostname: Your iPhones IP address
    • Username: root
    • Password: alpine (use your own password if you have changed it before)
  3. Login. If a window appear asking to answer yes or no (about key stuff), just press Yes/Accept.
  4. After logged in, navigate to /root/ folder in your iPhone (not in your computer).
  5. Navigate to /libary/ then to /themes/ folder.
  6. Drag folder of theme that you want to install from your computer to /themes/ folder in iPhone.
  7. You can safely closed the application. Now open your iPhone, open Winterboard. If you do correctly, you should find the name of the new themes there. Select it, close the Winterboard and wait for your iPhone to respring with the new theme installed! :D
